Skill-game classification under Indian law

Across a body of Indian Supreme Court rulings, supplemented by decades of state high-court reasoning, Teen Patti and rummy are classified as games of skill. That classification carries weight: as skill-based contests, they sit outside the gambling-prohibition wording of the Public Gambling Act, 1867 and most of its state-level equivalents. Every player carries a teacher tucked somewhere inside a Diwali memory. We named the room after that quiet teacher.
