A Five-by-Five Grid and One Difficult Decision

Mines on Sunset Bazaar is a tile-reveal puzzle with a multiplier loop bolted on top. You see a five-by-five grid — twenty-five tiles, face-down, dressed in saffron-orange — and before the round starts you choose how many of those tiles hide bombs. The standard setting is three bombs, but the slider runs from one bomb (the easiest, low-multiplier variant) up to twenty-four bombs (the hardest, lottery-ticket variant). Whatever you set, the rest of the tiles are safe. Tap a safe tile and the multiplier climbs; tap a bomb tile and the round ends with the stake gone.

The single decision that defines a Mines session is the bomb count. At three bombs, the first tile is safe twenty-two times out of twenty-five — comfortable odds, the multiplier per tap is small, and a typical round runs eight to twelve safe taps before you cash out. At ten bombs, the first tile is safe fifteen times out of twenty-five — riskier, but each safe tap multiplies the climb harder. At twenty bombs, the first tap is roughly one-in-five — very rough, very fast climb when it works.

The game is sometimes called by other names on other apps (Treasure Hunt, Bomb Field, Gridder) but the mechanic is identical. The Sunset Bazaar variant is the standard five-by-five with a 30-tile-per-round cap on selectable bombs. How A Round Plays — Stake, Click, Multiply, Cash

You set your stake first. Minimum is ₹10, maximum is ₹5,000 per round at the Sunset Bazaar table. You then choose the bomb count using the slider — three is the default. Hit Start, the grid arms, and your turn begins.

Each tap on a safe tile reveals a small lotus icon and bumps the multiplier on your stake. The current cash-out value is displayed prominently above the grid — so at any moment you know exactly what your wallet will receive if you cash out right now. The multiplier per tap depends on the bomb count and how many safe tiles remain: tighter grids and later taps multiply harder. A three-bomb game might show 1.08x after the first tap, 1.20x after the second, 1.35x after the third, and so on; a ten-bomb game multiplies much faster per tap.

You can cash out at any point with one tap on the green Cash Out button. The round ends, your stake times the current multiplier credits to your wallet, and the next round opens. If you instead tap a bomb tile, the grid reveals all bomb positions, the multiplier zeroes, and the round ends with the stake gone.

The Strategy Question — How Many Safe Tiles Should You Aim For?

There is no algorithm that beats Mines — the bomb positions are randomised at the start of every round and previous rounds give you no information about the next. What strategy does is shape the variance of your evening. Here are the standard plans.

Conservative grind. Three bombs, aim for three to four safe tiles, cash out at roughly 1.4x. Hit rate around eighty per cent. Small steady wins, easy on the bankroll. Most regulars use this as the default plan and only deviate when the wallet is comfortably ahead.

Mid-volatility climb. Five to seven bombs, aim for five to six safe tiles, cash out at roughly 2.5x to 3x. Hit rate around fifty per cent. Wins are bigger, losses are heavier — the trade-off is balanced for players who want their evening to swing without being a coin-flip.

Swing play. Ten to twelve bombs, aim for eight safe tiles plus, cash out at 5x or beyond. Hit rate under thirty per cent. The few wins are large, the many losses are real. The plan that does not work: deciding the cash-out target after the round starts. The single most common stake-bleed habit at Mines is the "one more tile" trap — you have hit four safe tiles, the multiplier is at 1.6x, the cash-out button is right there, and you decide to push one more. That fifth tile is the bomb roughly often enough to wreck your session. Set the cash-out figure before you start the round, and respect it.
